Although BPS follows the RIDE teacher evaluation model, the model includes areas of flexibility for districts. Along with our District Evaluation Committee (DEC), BPS has created a timeline and guidance for district use.

Teacher Evaluations
- Educators who hold initial and professional certificates that expire on August 31, 2017 should renew now. RIDE is now only e-mailing paper copies of certificates to educators. Educators are urged to make sure they maintain a current e-mail address in My eCert. A copy of your renewed certificate must be provided to the Superintendent’s Office.
- This year, teachers and administrators who hold an Initial certificate may progress to a Professional certificate when they have one Developing rating or higher within their renewal cycle. Teachers and administrators who are currently employed and do not have any previous ratings or who have 1 or more Ineffective ratings must wait until August 1 to renew. All teachers and administrators who hold a Professional certificate will renew as a Professional certificate. All support professionals will renew as the current level of their certificate.
- At this time, all Preliminary certificates (One-year Professional, and Temporary Initial) as well as Permits (Substitute) must be renewed via a paper application. Please note that, as of spring 2013, RIDE discontinued mailing paper copies of certificates to educators. All certificates are sent by email only. Educators are encouraged to maintain a current email address in My eCert.
- Questions about certification renewal? Contact the certification office by email, at [email protected].
- Teacher evaluations have started a differentiated cycle and building administrators will communicate which tier to follow. Click Here for Barrington Teacher Evaluation Expectations. We encourage certified staff to check the RIDE Educator Evaluation website for new information educator evaluation scoring and rubrics. Visit the RIDE website for updated information on the Education Evaluation Guidebooks and Forms.
- Please review SLO Scoring Guidance Flowchart to assist teachers and principals with end of year Student Learning Objectives (SLOs). Changes to the document are highlighted in yellow. The Evaluation Appeals Committee consists of Joe Hurley, Nahum Mitnik, department heads, and teachers trained in the evaluation model.
