Maker Opportunities from FabLab Newport

If you opt to attend, you will need to agree to choose to either A) demonstrate application within your teaching or leadership position of a MakerSpace Activity OR B ) share your learning at a district unconference, CPT or lunch and learn. Because the PD is outside of the school day, you will receive PD hours for attending. If you choose to lead an unconference , CPT or lunch and learn, you will also be eligible for a $50 stipend for your preparation. Teachers will explore various Chromebook applications that are grade level and discipline specific. District teachers will become proficient users of GAFE, Add-ons and Chromebook Apps to communicate, collaborate & create content. RISTE is offering Google Apps for Education workshops for teachers, two sessions (3 days each), with a discount if schools/districts register teams of 5 teachers. The training will be personalized so we can match the skills and needs of all participants. We have 5 trainers for each session so there will be plenty of hands on time and help during that work time.

RIDE PARCC ELA/Literacy Exepctations
RIDE will hold summer workshops for professional development regarding understanding PARCC ELA/Literacy expectations. These workshops will focus on expanding educators’ understanding of the PARCC ELA/Literacy expectations by having participants complete either a literary or informational calibration exercise using PARCC released student-work samples. Please note that this calibration exercise is a repeat of the calibration exercises we offered earlier this year (January through March) as part of our workshops on understanding PARCC ELA/Literacy. Complete the professional development plan, once you have been approved to attend and the Badge requirements once you have completed your professional learning and plan.

Highlander Lighthouse Classroom Training
Pathway to a Lighthouse Classroom Workshop, This 2-Day offering is designed for teachers who have implemented a blended learning model in their classroom and are ready to go deeper. This is limited to 12 participants and will focus on an in-depth examination of blended learning pedagogy and best practices using Highlander Institute planning and evaluation tools. Through a blended professional development delivery model, participants will explore models for delivering instruction to dynamic groups from 1 - 10 students, learn how to take formative assessment to the next level, understand the power of student collaboration and tinker with the latest tech tools, tricks and tips.
Pre-course work will include a self-assessment, a playlist to review and a few activities to complete. After the summit, participants will continue to benefit from asynchronous networking through a dedicated slack channel for sharing ideas, tools, resources, challenges and successes with the cohort.
